At Crewe Hair and Skin Clinic I aim to provide personalised solutions for hair loss, scalp problems, aesthetic and cosmetic skin concerns. As a GP, practising in the NHS since 1999, I realised that the ability to provide a comprehensive service to patients with hair loss and cosmetic skin concerns like hyperpigmentation was limited - especially in skin of colour. I was the first practising doctor to undertake training in Trichology with the Institute of Trichologists between 2010 and 2012, gaining a distinction in both years of the course. I built on that knowledge by joining professional societies for dermatologists, hair transplant surgeons, and cosmetic scientists. Using my public health training I search for evidence in the services I offer. My aesthetics training allows me to offer cutting edge technology for hair loss. a broad range of alternative solutions for cosmetic skin concerns which are not available in NHS General Practice or NHS Dermatologists.
The approach is inclusive of skin of colour. The consultation through this platform is a transcribed introductory conversation which is best used for: 1.Hair: If you are not able to travel to the clinic but would like to begin to explore how you could approach dealing with your hair loss 2. Aesthetic/cosmetic skin concern: To explore your potential options including an in-clinic treatment such as medical grade skin injectables or peels. Consent for any procedure or prescribing will need to be followed up with a face to face consultation. Treatment approach is holistic and includes prescribed medications, skin peels, injectables e.g. skin boosters/polynucleotides/ platelet rich plasma/ microneedling/botulinum toxin (Botox) and DNA testing to personalise treatments. Q: What do you love most about your work?
I love being able to provide my clients with time, understanding and a range of evidence-based options for cosmetic skin concerns, scalp issues and hair loss. I enjoy the lightbulb moment when customers realise that alternative approaches are possible for their issue, and that a range of options can make a difference. I love it when customers trust me enough to listen and take my advice and come back with results.
Q: What is the best advice you have ever received?
You can't change the world, but you can change your part of it.
Q: What is your proudest professional achievement?
Opening my own clinic. This is because I had never believed it would be possible to do it. Although there are many challenges, these are far outweighed by the ability to be able to create a workplace that allows me the flexibility to be able to provide a variety of service that use my training and hopefully complement what is available in the NHS.
