EV reviews... HydraFacial Back treatment

We try out the popular skin resurfacing treatment, also available to rejuvenate the skin on your back and shoulders

It’s the medical grade facial treatment that’s guaranteed to give skin an instant boost – HydraFacial penetrates 20 times deeper than regular facials, and uses active ingredients combined with microdermabrasion to infuse and resurface the skin.

This 6-in-1 treatment has already achieved cult status in the aesthetics world, and for good reason. It works.

And now it’s not just your face that can benefit from HydraFacial’s skin brightening power: the HydraFacial Back treatment uses a cocktail of ingredients paired with lymphatic drainage to decongest and breathe new life into skin which may not see the light of day that often.

Not just ideal for tackling ‘bacne’, congested pores and oily, acne-prone skin, it’s also a great option for anyone looking to show off some skin or improve their skin’s health, either on holiday or before a special event.

Often suffering from the occasional back and shoulder breakout, I was interested to see how the popular treatment could transform the condition of my skin for the better, so I checked into the Cavendish Clinic at Peter Jones in London, to try it for myself.

I’ve had a signature HydraFacial treatment before so was vaguely aware of what to expect. However, I found the back treatment a lot more relaxing – I have sensitive skin, so parts of the facial can feel pretty abrasive to me, and because of the stimulating element, I also end up quite red afterwards.

My therapist Victoria began the 45-minute procedure with some relaxing lymphatic drainage – one of my favourite massages – to help detoxify the skin.

This set the tone for the next step, a deep cleanse and exfoliation to prepare the skin for the hardworking element of the treatment, which includes unblocking pores and sweeping away dead skin cells.

Next, an exfoliating chemical peel featuring a combination of glycolic and salicylic acid, designed to improve the skin’s texture while acting as an anti-inflammatory. This felt very comfortable and not at all ‘stingy.’

Extraction followed to clear the pores of blackheads and other impurities; unbeknownst to me a rather large blackhead was found lurking in the centre of my back which Victoria swiftly removed.

Then for the Hydration part of the treatment: this includes a combination of hyaluronic acid and peptides to anti-age and deeply hydrate the skin.

The treatment concluded with antibacterial blue and red light therapy, to calm the skin and reduce any inflammation.

Victoria also showed me the infamous HydraFacial tube of gunk which shows all the dead cells, dirt and other debris extracted from the skin; apparently mine wasn't too bad at all.

As you might expect there’s no downtime with a HydraFacial Back treatment, however it’s necessary to avoid the sun in the treatment area for a couple of days and to apply a good SPF.

My skin was a little pink immediately afterwards which settled down quickly; a couple of days later my skin looked clearer and more radiant.

Would I do it again? Absolutely – what's not to like about a treatment that's not only relaxing but results-driven too?
