But what about your vagina? Yes, your vagina can also benefit from treatments should you want to address issues, and the lauded Morpheus8 is the latest to offer a solution for a variety of concerns you might have.
We got the lowdown from the experts on what the Morpheus8 can do, and how it can benefit your vagina.
Give me an overview of the Morpheus8
The Morpheus8 is a combined treatment of microneedling and radio frequency. It has two modes depending on which tip is used – there’s one for resurfacing, which can reduce scarring and help with pigmentation (basically anything that’s quite surface level), and another for remodelling, which is a deeper treatment to tighten and up elasticity. How does it actually work?
We turned to Vivek Nama, Consultant Gynaecologist at The Medical Salon to explain: “The radio-frequency energy delivered through the gold-plated pins stimulates a group of proteins called Heat Shock Proteins (HSP). Of these the main proteins are HSP 47 that encourage tissue remodelling and realignment of the collagen fibres to cause tissue shrinkage. HSP 70, which is also directly activated by radio frequency energy, causes fibroblast activation and collagen production. The key with Morpheus8 treatments is to deliver the energy safely in a controlled manner to provoke an injury that the body can recognise and repair through mechanisms that are well understood.”So, in short, it triggers the healing response – meaning plenty of lovely collagen and fibroblasts flooding the area.
How does that benefit the vagina?
The Morpheus8 is used to remedy various ailments. Vivek names a few: “Stress incontinence, mild uterovaginal prolapse, and vaginal atrophy." He adds that they have seen "excellent results for stress incontinence in combination with tone which improves the pelvic floor.”How often do you need to have it to see results?
Sofia Abou-Saleh, Skin Specialist at Vie Aesthetics explains: "You need between three and 10 days of downtime. You’ll be red afterwards as a result of the erythema reaction. You should start with three sessions, all spaced a month apart. The repeat traumas are necessary to allow more collagen to come through the fibroblasts. I’d recommend maintenance sessions – do at least two a year to keep the results going."Vivek adds that when treating the vagina, you can expect some spotting and that it’s not advisable to be sexually active for three days.
