What is Skin BioLayering?

This emerging method is taking a layered, skin-first approach to injectables – but is it right for you?

Injectables are entering a new era as we shift towards subtle techniques that mirror how we treat our skin topically. Instead of relying on a single product to do everything, leading practitioners are now taking a layered, skin-first approach to injectable treatments.

This emerging method, which dermal filler company Teoxane has coined Skin BioLayering, focuses on combining injectables with different functions to enhance overall results. Rather than just addressing volume or lines, it looks at structure, movement and skin quality together, creating more natural, long-lasting outcomes. Dr Kam Lally, Teoxane Faculty Member, explains further.

What is Skin BioLayering?

"Skin BioLayering is the practice of combining injectable treatments that work synergistically in different ways, at different levels of the skin, to support facial dynamics and skin health. This approach treats injectables as part of your overall skin support strategy. This often means pairing a flexible dermal filler with a skin quality booster, layering treatments to improve how the skin looks, feels and behaves over time."

Who is it for?

"Skin BioLayering is popular with patients who are looking for subtle, natural-looking results and those who want to look fresher and healthier rather than visibly ‘done’. It’s also increasingly favoured by practitioners treating early signs of ageing, dehydrated or crepey skin, or patients who do not need volume but want visible improvement in skin texture, elasticity and glow."

How Skin BioLayering is done

"One of the most talked-about industry combinations is Teoxane RHA 1 layered with Teoxane Redensity 1. RHA 1 is designed to integrate seamlessly into dynamic areas of the face, supporting natural movement while subtly smoothing fine lines. Redensity 1 is a skin quality booster formulated to deeply hydrate, improve elasticity and enhance overall skin texture. Used together, practitioners can address both how the face moves and how the skin behaves, creating a more comprehensive result than either treatment alone."

How soon will I see results?

"With Redensity 1 most patients notice improved hydration and skin glow within 7–10 days, as the hyaluronic acid and nutrient complex begin to improve moisture levels and skin quality from within. Skin texture, elasticity and overall radiance continue to improve over the following month. When layered with RHA 1, results can feel both immediate and progressive with subtle smoothing and support visible early on, and skin quality improving over time."

How long do the results last?

"Results from Redensity 1 typically last around six months, depending on skin condition, lifestyle and metabolism. Improvements in hydration and texture often peak after a course of treatments and can be maintained with periodic top-ups. RHA 1 results last generally up to 12 months, as it is designed to move naturally with facial expressions while maintaining structure. When used together as part of a layered approach, practitioners report results that not only look more natural, but often age better over time, as the skin itself is being improved alongside structural support."

How many years can it take off my face?

"Rather than dramatically changing facial structure, Skin BioLayering tends to reduce visible signs of ageing such as dullness, fine lines, dehydration and loss of elasticity, which are often what make skin look tired or older. Patients can look up to five years fresher once results have fully settled, particularly due to improvements in skin quality rather than volume. By combining Redensity 1 to improve hydration, texture and elasticity with RHA 1 to subtly support movement and soften fine lines, the face tends to look more rested, smoother and healthier without the overfilled appearance that can actually age the face."

Why layering matters

"When Redensity 1 is layered alongside RHA 1, practitioners can treat multiple skin concerns in a single treatment plan. RHA 1 supports structure and flexibility, while at the same time Redensity 1 enhances skin quality, helping results look more natural, last longer and improve over time. It reflects a broader shift in aesthetics where consumers are stepping away from volume-driven treatments and towards techniques that prioritise skin health, movement and longevity. Skin BioLayering marks a move towards a more holistic, skincare-led approach to injectables and one where treatments are tailored, combined and customised, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all solution."
