It may look like something out of a sci-fi movie, but this could be the future of aesthetics. And it’s also very timely, as this particular treatment ticks all the social distancing boxes, doing the lion’s share of the work with minimal contact from your aesthetics practitioner.

Hands-free treatments have been in research and development for a number of years, but medical tech company InMode has pipped all others to the post with Evoke.

This industry-first facial remodelling and skin tightening device features facial applicators – one for the cheeks (which looks like headphones) and one for under the chin – which are strapped on to the patient for up to 30 minutes at a time.

The headpiece applicators deliver proven bipolar radio frequency (RF) energy to the cheeks, neck and jawline. This energy penetrates deep into the sub dermal layer, uniformly heating the skin and stimulating fresh collagen. With its ability to maintain a constant temperature, it remodels facial tissue, resulting in more defined facial characteristics.

Pain free and suitable for all skin types, Evoke Face is designed to address cheeks and jowls, while Evoke Chin is designed for the neck, jawline and jowls.

We tried Evoke at London’s Lisa Franklin Clinic Privé (one of the first in the UK to offer it), and were impressed at how quick, easy and even relaxing it was, with absolutely no downtime.

The temperature doesn’t exceed 43 degrees celsius, so the warmth is comfortable for the majority of people, and is programmed and monitored by the practitioner – there is also a patient ‘panic’ button which allows you to switch it off if you need to for any reason.

I tried the cheek applicator for 15 minutes; this produced some redness, which was partially due to the snug fit of the applicator (I am also prone to redness from pressure), although by the time I got home this had subsided.

The chin applicator was even more comfortable and left no trace of having even been treated in the area.

Is this treatment for me?

As Evoke tightens and remodels the face and sub dermal area, ideal candidates may have skin laxity, excess skin or fatty tissue on the face or neck, jowls or a double chin. It would also be a good treatment option in combination with other procedures such as microneedling.

How many sessions are required?

It’s recommended to have 3-6 sessions (15-30 minutes per applicator), spaced one week apart for optimal results. So for example, you could have 3x60 minute or 6x30 minute sessions to suit your schedule.

When will I see results?

You’ll start to see a difference with each subsequent treatment and over time, with most of the development over 8-12 weeks after your course. This is how long it takes for new collagen to be stimulated and produced. Results are said to last a couple of years.

How much does it cost?

Depending on location, treatments cost from around £450 per 30 minute session.

What do I need to do after the treatment?

Apart from the possibility of a little redness which soon subsides, there is no downtime so you are free to carry on with your daily schedule. You should, however, avoid applying creams or serums to the area for 24 hours.
