Aesthetic Experts' summer treatment essentials

What treatments do the experts book in summer? Here, they reveal their can't-live-without aesthetic essentials…

If you’re an aesthetic practitioner, looking good is the name of the game. When you’re booking in for a treatment you want to know you’re in the hands of a highly skilled professional, who ideally, also has flawless, radiant skin. After all, leading by example is everything when it comes to aesthetics.

During the summer months, we all want smooth, hydrated, healthy looking skin. So, what are the treatments aestheticians can’t live without at this time of year? With so many different options to boost and maintain skin health, we were curious to know their secrets—here, they reveal their favourites.

Alice Henshaw, Nurse Prescriber

“Summer is the season where I shift my focus to hydration, luminosity and skin resilience. My two top aesthetic treatments reflect this philosophy and the broader rise in subtle, natural looking tweakments. I like Juvederm Facial Filler as I favour a more minimalist approach to dermal filler, focusing on restoring facial proportions, balancing symmetry and creating soft, subtle enhancement. It creates beautiful, understated results and allows me to feel confident bare-faced, without looking ‘done’. For dermal filler, it takes around 2-3 weeks for everything to settle. So, early summer appointments are best ahead of summer holidays.

“Another favourite is my clinic's SkinCycles Caviar Peel. This is a luxurious, clinically effective peel that contains caviar, alongside mandelic acid, lime caviar and wild plum. It’s formulated to target dullness, fine lines and uneven texture, but is gentle enough for use during the summer. It leaves skin refined, smooth and radiant, without the harsh downtime or flaking that comes with traditional peels.”

Dr Emmaline Ashley, Cosmetic Physician & Founder, Ashley Aesthetics

“I’m living in the Cayman Islands at the moment, where there is a lot of sun exposure and high humidity. I’m acutely aware how important it is to have treatments that can nourish, hydrate, and protect my skin in the summer, and two treatments I absolutely can’t live without are polynucleotides and exosomes. Polynucleotides are not only a personal favourite, but are also fast becoming one of my most requested treatments here. The treatment deeply hydrates the skin and supports collagen production, while reducing inflammation, pigmentation and signs of photo-ageing. The results are consistently impressive, delivering a natural, healthy glow, without any downtime.

Exo|E is a 3-step exosome-based system derived from plant sources. It’s rich in growth factors, peptides, and anti-inflammatory agents. I use it as a standalone, to enhance skin rejuvenation, and as an adjunct to other treatments such as microneedling and laser. What makes it particularly well-suited for summer is the way it supports barrier function and visibly enhances tone and texture, without increasing photosensitivity. For slightly invasive skin treatments (eg: microneedling, laser), it's so important to have good skin preparation and aftercare—they are best done at least a week or two before sun exposure.”

Dr Vincent Wong, Aesthetic Doctor, London

Periorbital rejuvenation is a favourite summer aesthetic treatment, because my skin looks more refreshed, youthful and vibrant. There are more social activities in the summer, so I want my skin to look its very best—the treatment targets the delicate eye area, reducing lines and signs of fatigue, and includes botulinum toxin and biorevitalising threads (smooth collagen stimulating threads) inserted under the eyes to improve skin quality. You only need one session, but this needs to be done 45 days before a major summer event, when skin improvement will be at its peak.

My other go-to includes a combination of energy-based treatments (gentle laser, RF microneedling and LED), exosomes and medical grade skincare to create a radiant, summer glow. Results can be seen after one treatment, although three treatments are recommended, four weeks apart. It is safe to be carried out over the summer months.”

Amish Patel, Aesthetics Practitioner & Skincare Expert, Intrigue Cosmetic Clinic

“Botulinum toxin is a great aesthetic treatment all year round for smoothing expression lines and giving the skin a smoother texture. However, I like the fact that it can also prevent sweating, which makes it perfect for summer. Another summer essential is NuSkin ageLOC Galvanic Spa Face Care Essentials. This is a home beauty tech kit which I personally use every day, in the morning and evening. The multi-purpose device harnesses low level, galvanic currents to stimulate skin cell renewal, improve tissue fluid flow, reduce open pores, and drive skincare ingredients deep into the epidermis. I also use it to remove the build-up of sunscreen, dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells at the end of each day. This system leaves my skin feeling fresh and glowing.”

Julie Scott, Owner & Clinical Director, Facial Aesthetics

“Juvéderm Volite is a key summer skin booster treatment that boosts skin hydration, elasticity, and texture without adding volume. I schedule it 2-4 weeks before events—it’s perfect for fresh, luminous skin with only minimal makeup. I also have a HydraFacial once a month, 3-4 sessions of microneedling spaced 4-6 weeks apart and LED light therapy, used post-treatment or as maintenance. HydraFacial refreshes and hydrates my skin instantly, with no downtime, microneedling stimulates the collagen for firmer, smoother skin, while LED light therapy soothes inflammation, aids recovery and enhances results. I always use broad-spectrum sun protection. Volite’s effects develop gradually but pairing it with HydraFacials keeps my skin clear and glowing. Together, these treatments help to maintain healthy, radiant skin.”

Gemma Clare, Skin & Wellbeing Expert, London

“I am huge fan of Skinpen microneedling with PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide, derived from salmon DNA), hyaluronic acid and nicotinamide, followed by exosomes with hyaluronic acid. I do this at least a week or two before I go on holiday. This is a fantastic skin booster and biostimulator which helps to keep my skin hydrated, dewy, smooth and rejuvenated during the summer. I also always use a high (SPF 50+) medical-grade sunscreen to protect my skin from UV rays.”
