5 of the best in-clinic treatments for dry skin

Give your skin a moisture boost with our round up of tried and tested aesthetic treatments for dry, parched skin

We all strive for healthy and hydrated skin, but flare-ups of dry skin can happen to anyone at any time. The right skincare and lifestyle changes can help, but sometimes a stronger in-clinic treatment is needed to return your skin to plump and moist lusciousness.

Dry skin is caused by a lack of sebum – the oil our skin produces – and tends to look flaky as well as feeling tight, itchy and uncomfortable. It can be caused by your genetic makeup but also by using harsh skincare, cold, hot and windy weather and even hot water.

We've rounded up some treatments designed to provide parched skin with the moisture it craves.

Fire and Ice Resurfacing Facial Treatment

Sitting somewhere between a facial and a chemical peel, this intensive treatment is designed to resurface while smoothing, softening and reducing fine lines. The skin is double-cleansed before two masks with different ingredients are applied. The first – ‘fire’ – is an intensive resurfacing masque with ingredients such as glycolic acid, citric acid and potent antioxidants. This is followed by ‘ice’ – a cooling, soothing mask with aloe vera, botanical extracts and moisture-boosting hyaluronic acid. Popular with celebrities heading for the red carpet, this facial leaves skin feeling hydrated and looking brighter.

Pico Infusion

This state-of-the-art, tri-layer skin rejuvenating treatment is designed to refresh and resurface the skin. First, a Picosure Focus laser blasts away post-summer pigmentation, evening out skin tone and signs of ageing. Then comes mesotherapy, which scatters a bespoke cocktail of powerful vitamins over the face in tiny individual injections, encouraging the production of collagen and improving elasticity. Finally, hyaluronic acid is injected over the face to moisturise the skin from the inside. Results last for six months.

Microdermabrasion

This popular treatment uses tiny micro particles or crystals which are blasted across your skin using a special microdermabrasion handpiece to scrub away dead cells on the surface of the skin. It's particularly good for visible dry or flaky patches. Relatively comfortable and minimally invasive, skin will be left with a healthy glow, although you might be slightly red for a few hours. Without dead skin cells, dirt and oil clogging the surface, your skin will be able to better absorb hydrating products and ingredients.

Dermalux LED Red Light Therapy

Totally non invasive, this relaxing treatment involves lying under a lamp or face mask that emits certain wavelengths of light. For dry skin, red light is recommended as it increases blood circulation and stimulates cellular activity, leading to increased collagen. After just one treatment skin can appear more hydrated and plump with any irritation calmed, although a course of 5-10 sessions is usually recommended.

Skin peels

You might think a chemical peel would be a harsh option for dry, sensitive skin, but the right peel can actually be very hydrating. Gentle, light or ‘superficial peels’, act on the surface level, and can help dry skin by removing the top dead layer of skin cells. Typically exfoliating acids such as glycolic acid or lactic acid are used to dissolve dead cells on the surface of the skin, revealing a brighter, smoother complexion with fewer rough or dry patches.
