Ask the Expert
Q: What do you love most about your work?
I love being able to use my training to help people feel confident and good about themselves. I also love that the same skill that drew me towards surgery is involved in doing aesthetic procedures, with practitioners needing a good understanding of the complexities of anatomy and being very nimble with their fingers! I also love the creativity and artistry that goes into the work to create beautiful, natural results.
Q: What is the best advice you have ever received?
The best advice I've ever had is that it's never too early to start pursuing your goals and dreams. You always have less time than you think!
Q: What is your proudest professional achievement?
My proudest achievement to date is submitting my plastic surgery research dissertation for my Masters degree in surgery. It was such a labour of love in a topic I found fascinating, but that had very difficult data to deal with.
Q: How do you like to spend your free time?
I love cooking and eating food! I am currently completing a diploma in culinary medicine, and am deeply interested in nutrition and lifestyle medicine. This has also tied in beautifully with my interest in yoga, and I am a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance. I'm also an avid reader of books and a published author.
Q: Based on expertise, what is your best piece of advice?
My best piece of advice is to do your research ahead of time and try to work with people who are highly trained and well-informed - especially when it comes to aesthetic treatments and skincare. But more importantly than that, find a practitioner who puts your at ease, makes you feel comfortable, and can explain everything well.
Q: What is your most useful life lesson?
Self-care is so important, and it's something that is too easily neglected. Remember, you can't take care of anyone else unless you look after yourself first.
Q: What is your favourite skincare product and why?
I have a few products that I absolutely love. Top of the list are the Obagi, Epionce, skinbetter science, and Folle'd ranges which are excellent and backed by stellar clinical research. At the moment by head has really been turned by the AlphaRet Overnight Cream from skinbetter science. It's gorgeous and I've seen stunning results. Don't forget SPF! I absolutely love the Daily Shield Tinted SPF 50 from Epionce. The best thing you can do for your skin is protect it.
Q: What was the most memorable event in your life?
The most memorable event in my life was getting my first two novels published when I was 16! I was so excited and thrilled!
Q: What is your greatest career ambition?
My greatest career ambition has changed a lot as I've gotten older. When I was young it was always to be the best at everything I tried. Now, I find that what I want most is to have a healthy balance between work that I love and my family and the other things in life that are important to me.
