We asked leading aesthetic gurus and EV Experts about the treatments they personally love, and the ones they'll be recommending to patients during the cooler months. Read on to discover what they had to say…
Chemical peels
“Chemical peels are particularly beneficial in the autumn and winter months, as reduced sun exposure minimises the risks of hyperpigmentation, redness, and irritation post treatment and allows the skin to heal better. These peels work by exfoliating the outermost layers of the skin, promoting cell turnover and revealing a fresher, more even complexion. A chemical solution, from ‘mild’ acids such as glycolic, to stronger ones such as trichloroacetic acid (TCA), damage the skin in a controlled manner and stimulate repair by producing new, healthy skin cells. Chemical peels vary in strength and are therefore suitable for different skin types, tones and concerns. They are ideal for anyone who wants to refresh their complexion after the summer. I recommend scheduling medium and deep chemical peels during autumn and winter as the lower intensity of sun exposure, heat and air pollution makes it easier to protect the skin after treatment. At this time of year, the peels I use most on myself and patients are cysteamine, tranexamic acid, retinal, azelaic and salicylic acid. These are ideal for those struggling with sun damage, sunspots, melasma or an uneven skin tone.”Corina Mihalache, Aesthetician and Founder, Ace Skin Health Clinic
Polynucleotides
“Polynucleotides are tiny fragments of DNA injected into the skin to help it repair and regenerate. This leads to smoother, firmer, stronger, more elastic skin with fewer wrinkles, smaller pores and a more even tone. Plus, polynucleotides are great at keeping your skin hydrated and calm, making them perfect post summer. Since UV radiation from the sun is more intense during the summer months and long-term UV exposure leads to premature ageing—think wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and dehydration—this treatment is a no brainer come autumn/winter. Not only do polynucleotides offer immediate results, but they make my skin cells younger, making them a great investment for my future skin. I’m a big fan, and treat my whole face, neck and décolletage.”Dr Raquel Amado, Director, Dr Raquel Skin & Medical Cosmetics
HydroMax
“HydroMax, the pure hyaluronic acid gel, is an injectable skin booster and hydrating powerhouse that boosts collagen stores, elastin, and hyaluronic acid in the skin. It’s not a filler but is thick enough to provide an improvement in your facial structure, offering a subtle lift. It’s perfect for post summer skin as the change in temperature alone can trigger dehydration, dryness and sometimes even cracking, making HydroMax really beneficial as it offers high levels of hydration.”Ahmed El Muntasar, Aesthetic Doctor
Sylfirm X
“One of the key treatments I'll be recommending to patients this autumn/winter is Sylfirm X. It's ideal for the cooler months as sun exposure is minimal, ensuring optimal results and reducing the risk of post-treatment pigmentation. Sylfirm X is a radio frequency (RF) microneedling treatment that uses pulsed wave and continuous wave technology to target pigmentation, redness, and skin laxity. It works by delivering radio frequency energy deep into the skin, promoting collagen production and rejuvenating skin from within. The science behind Sylfirm X is rather special as it has the ability to target abnormal blood vessels and pigmentation, making it particularly effective for conditions like rosacea, melasma, and hyperpigmentation. It’s great for individuals seeking skin rejuvenation, improved texture and a reduction in fine lines. I love this treatment because it delivers noticeable results after just a few sessions with minimal downtime, making it a fantastic option for patients wanting a refreshed, youthful glow throughout the cooler months.”Dr Mahsa Saleki, Founder, SAS Aesthetics
Morpheus8 Burst
“For post summer skin rejuvenation and repair, Morpheus8 Burst is my go-to. This powerful combination of microneedling and radio frequency technology is designed to remodel the deeper layers of the skin, and is particularly suited for the autumn/winter months when UV levels are lower as this reduces the risk of post-treatment pigmentation. By delivering RF energy through tiny needles into the skin’s deeper layers, the device is able to stimulate collagen and elastin production, which tightens the skin, enhances texture and diminishes wrinkles. It’s ideal for patients with sagging skin, fine lines or uneven texture as it offers impressive improvements with minimal downtime. I love that Morpheus8 Burst is versatile and that it allows for each treatment to be tailored to address concerns on both the face and body.”Dr Hassan Galadari, Founder, Galadari Derma Clinic
BBL Heroic
“I’m a big fan of the BBL Heroic. The latest advancement in intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments, this clever system tracks the position of the handpiece, allowing perfect overlap and coverage. We can now treat much faster than any other IPL technology—for example, a full body skin treatment can be performed in under an hour. Autumn and winter is the perfect time to have this done as you need to ensure you are not tanned before undergoing this treatment. It treats pigmentation, lines, and wrinkles, vascular concerns, and has also been shown (by a 10-year study carried out at Stanford University) to rejuvenate the skin cells at a genetic level, turning back the clock on the gene expression of the skin cells and reverting them back to a younger time point. In terms of achieving healthy looking, even-toned skin, there is no better treatment, and it is absolutely an investment in your skin’s health and appearance.”Jennifer Doyle, Founder, The Clinic Holland Park
Laser hair removal
“Laser treatments are especially recommended in the cooler months when sun exposure is minimised to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation associated with post-laser sun exposure. The Alexandrite laser is ideal for lighter skin tones, while the Nd-Yag laser is more suitable for darker skin tones. These lasers work by emitting light that is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicles, effectively destroying them to inhibit future hair growth. The treatment is perfect for those who want to reduce unwanted hair in the long term—I love it because it provides lasting results and eliminates the need for shaving or waxing. I personally undergo laser hair removal in the autumn as a refresher to ensure my skin stays smooth and hair-free. The laser has fundamentally changed my routine. The confidence and convenience it offers is second to none.”Corina Mihalache, Aesthetician and Founder, Ace Skin Health Clinic
